This week, I had the unspeakable pleasure of hosting my dearest friend, Griffin Coombs (founder of The North Star Body), for (unfortunately) less than a week at my now-home in Bellingham, Washington.
If you know me, know us, or have listened to any of our past podcast episodes, you know a bit of the background story. We met on Instagram back in the winter of 2017, connected by our shared interest in the Paleo diet and morning routines.
On 27 July 2022 we joined forces to launch our podcast, Forging Fluidity: on navigating primal purpose. Our intention behind this project was to invite people to eavesdrop on uncommon conversations that we were having in private. Countless times, we ended a discussion thinking: Wow, that was powerful! If only we were recording it.
And so, the Forging Fluidity Podcast was born.
We published eight inspiring episodes before other projects asked for more of our attention. This week, during our time together, we looked back at the titles and felt a comfort in how well we live our individual truths, and how aligned we are with one another. The topics we talked about with so much passion are still things that we both hold to our hearts.
In celebration of our relaunch (the new episode will be out Tuesday morning – 19 November), I’m listening back on our conversations and doing what I always had planned to do: share the summaries with the world, for those who enjoy a more visual experience.
Without further ado, let’s dive into our forth episode.
Alone, Not Lonely: The Art of Intentional Solitude
In this episode of Forging Fluidity, hosts Savannah Wishart and Griffin Coombs explore the profound value of intentional solitude and its distinction from loneliness. Against the backdrop of a hyper-connected world, we discuss how meaningful alone time fosters self-awareness, personal growth, and emotional balance.
We both share personal practices that enrich our individual solo moments – such as morning breathwork, coffee rituals, and hiking, underscoring the restorative power of mindful, undistracted activities.
The conversation delves into the ancestral roots of shame associated with loneliness and the societal pressures that prioritize constant connectivity. We believe there is an importance in practicing the skill of balancing solitude with enriching social connections, and advocating for the depth and emotional nourishment found in a small circle of close relationships.
For those navigating the challenges of modern life, including expat communities, we share some thoughtful advice on cultivating both meaningful alone time and authentic social bonds.
As usual, we encourage our listeners to reflect on their own tendencies—whether leaning toward solitude or socializing—and to begin to intentionally work toward balance.
Of course, being “alone” away from another person’s presence is not enough. You can be alone and continue to distract yourself with social media, self pleasure, television, or food. We strive to advocate a practice that incorporates moments of stillness to reach deeply into true restoration.
We hope that you leave the end of the episode inspired to curate your own unique harmonious approach to living life more fully and authentically, intentionally blending introspection with human connection.
